Psalms 6,8-10,14,16,19,21

Click here for today’s reading of Psalms 6,8-10,14,16,19,21

Psalm 6— is called a Penitential” Psalm.  This Psalm is for repenting.  There are 7 “penitential” Psalms, the others are 32, 38, 51, 102, 130, and 143. David was never perfect, but David always confessed and repented his sin to the Lord.  This psalm is from the heart, something I am sure we can all relate with!!  “Turn Lord and deliver me; save me because of your unfailing love.”  AMEN!!

Psalm 8—“How majestic is YOUR name in all the earth!”  The heavens are the work of HIS FINGERS!!  He hung EACH star and the moon!!  “WHAT is mankind that YOU are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?  You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor.  YOU made them rulers over the words of YOUR hands.”   We are worth more to Him than anything in the World.  Do we realize that?  I honestly have to admit I am still trying to wrap my heart … my entire being around the depths of HIS love for me!!!  WOW!!!  Undeserved…imperfect, rebellious, stiff necked, stubborn, YET…… HE has crowned me with glory and honor.  I fall to my knees reading this!!

Psalm 9: “I will give thanks to YOU, LORD, with ALL my heart!!!

“Those who know your name will trust in you, for you , Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.” Vs 10

My mind thinks of how similar our world is today to the world we are reading about in the OT.  “The nations have fallen into the pit they have dug; their feet are caught in the net they have hidden.”  Israel moved away from God step by step… they KNEW HIM, they had SEEN HIS miracles, and KNEW his laws…but the idol worship was so much easier…so much more appealing…so much more fun (or so it appeared.)  In our world today I hear terms of “politically correct,” “go with the flow,” “do what you feel is right,” … and I could go on and on but the bottom line is that it takes us toooooo much time to read God’s Word and be with HIM so we become easily confused… what is real…what is truth…what is our purpose?  THERE is ONLY ONE TRUTH and the ONLY way to KNOW it so we can truly praise HIM and so we can recognize a false prophet when it comes in our path…is to KNOW the Word and to KNOW HIM.  GOD WANTS us to KNOW HIM…personally…deeply…always and forever.

Psalm 10: verse 4 In his pride the wicked man does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.”

David is singing out, crying out to God.  He is confused as to why people who do not love the Lord or even think of HIM …seem to get ahead in the world.  My heart aches when I read this because I can feel the brokenness in my heart…the aloneness.  Yet… David so wonderfully reminds us that “The Lord is King forever and ever…YOU encourage the afflicted and You listen to their cry…. You defend the fatherless and the oppressed.”

I am reminded that our relationship with God is not based on our circumstances, feelings, or emotions …. But ON the promises of HIS Word and CHOSING to BELIEVE HIS WORD in FAITH!!

Psalm 14: Verse 1 “the fool says in his heart, “There is no God”. (We all may know somebody here that we can pray for), but the Psalm got interesting after that.  Just when I was shaking my head thinking of someone else, in verse 3 it says “All have turned aside, they have together become corrupt, there is NO ONE who does good, not even one.”

So we may be able to call the unbeliever a fool today but we all must remember where we came from

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, (Romans 3:23)

Part of the last verse reads “WHEN the Lord restores his people….”  He did not say IF… he said WHEN!!  God wants us whole, in fellowship with HIM…. That’s what we have Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.  The most wonderful thing in living for Christ is KNOWING that HE wants us to come to HIM so HE can and will RESTORE us to HIM.

Psalm 16: this is a Miktam, which means to “cover.”   “Keep me safe my God for in your I take refuge.”  Have you ever been in the hospital so sick that you simply didn’t have the energy to care what they did to you? This Psalm reminded me of those times in my life.  My ONLY thoughts were on God.. my refuge, my protector, my healer, my portion and my cup, “surely I have a delightful inheritance.  I will praise the Lord, who counsels me….”  “I KEEP my eyes ALWAYS on the Lord.  Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue REJOICES.”

Psalm 16:2 I say to the LORD, “You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing.” (Amen!!!)

Psalm 16:5-8
LORD, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance. I will praise the LORD, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me. I keep my eyes always on the LORD. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

For anyone who has hurts, habits, and hang ups that keep them/us from living their/our best life now…the best life God desires for us to live…. A few terms I picked up on in this psalm were “boundary lines”, “even at night my heart instructs me”, “you will not abandon me….nor will you let your faithful one see decay…YOU fill me with joy in YOUR presence.”  SUCH PEACE!!

Psalm 19:  verses 1-2 “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge.”   “The law is perfect, Trustworthy, Right, Sure and Precious”.  They are not rules….they are the Key!!   Rules are EXTERNAL demands.  God continually tells us HE desires that we love HIM with all our hearts, souls, and minds; and that HIS law is written upon our hearts of flesh.  What God desires is truly STANDARDS which are INTERNAL, personal, OUR desire to please our Abba FatherPsalms 19:14 May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.

Psalm 21: A Psalm of Thanksgiving after a defeat.  I am reminded of the Words of 1 Samuel 17:47 when he said …. “the battle is the Lords..”  And since the battle is HIS that means HE has me (and you) covered regardless of the outcome.  HE IS IN CONTROL regardless if we like the results.  “He uses ALL things to our good…..”

What touched your heart today?  What popped off the page for you and changed your view of one small thing forever???  I’d love to hear!
