We have read this account before but it was a good review. I am convinced God gives us the reviews because HE knows we need the refreshers!! In these two chapters we saw illness, prayer, healing, signs, blessings, pride, man-made worship, divination, humility and forgiveness. Can you see in these topics which things PLEASE THE LORD and which things DISPLEASE HIM?? Definitely something to think about and pray about….what things do you do that are PLEASING to Him? Is HE working on anything in your life that is displeasing to HIM?…..Listen to HIM….He wants what is best for each of us but if we are continually doing things that are not pleasing to HIM….HE can’t bless us the way HE really desires.
EACH time I read a verse that begins with “be strong and courageous”, the peace that passeth understanding comes over me. I am FOREVER grateful for God using Dawn E to help me see this verse in a very practical way for my life!!! 2 Chronicles 32:7 “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged because of the king of Assyria and the vast army with him, for there is a greater power with us than with him.”
I found this verse interesting: 2 Chron 32:31 ”But when envoys were sent by the rulers of Babylon to ask him about the miraculous sign that had occurred in the land, God left him (Hezekiah) to test him and to know everything that was in his heart.” Hezekiah was greatly blessed, he had seen God answer his prayers, he had witnessed signs, he led the people in the direction of the ONE true God, he became prideful and repented so the Lord’s wrath did not come upon the people of Jerusalem during his rule ….. and God left him to TEST him to see what was in his heart. Powerful!! Reminds me a little of Job. It also reminds me that each of us go through times of testing as well. The testing is never easy but if we humble ourselves, pray about what God wants to teach us, then HE will use it much quicker than if we fight it, refuse to learn, become rebellious, and decided to do things our own way. He wants to know we really trust HIM.
Then we have Hezekiah’s son, Manasseh (rut row). 2 Chronicles 33:6 ”He sacrificed his sons in the fire in the Valley of Ben Hinnom, practiced sorcery, divination and witchcraft, and consulted mediums and spiritists. He did much evil in the eyes of the Lord, provoking him to anger.” I read this verse several times and the more I read it the more I thought of all that is going on in our world that is totally against the way God Word wants us to live. We see SO much evil, choices that are not according to God’s Word…. and yet all seems acceptable to most people. Possibly it is all the desensitation on TV and all media that makes EVERYTHING appear to be right. I think about the 800-PSYCHIC #s to call, 800 CoMPANION #s to call, get your free crystals, people that we often choose as mentors who are so wonderful and kind but do not believe in the ONE true God!! It is all so “upside down.” God tells us in the last days that the bad will be good and the good will be bad!! I am so very blessed and joyful to have the Word of God, to KNOW the ONE TRUE God who loves me and you so very much, and to have the opportunity to serve HIM. I believe God has left all these examples of how EASY it was for Israel and Judah to get off track because….we are JUST like them. IF we do NOT keep the Word of God at the forefront of our lives…..we too can do the wrong things, make the wrong choices with out knowing it because we are not seeking God and HIs Word and HIS way.
And as rotten as Manesseh was, his eyes were opened, he prayed and God heard him and listened to his plea. 2 Chronicles 33:12 In his distress he (Manesseh) sought the favor of the Lord his God and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers. “13 And when he prayed to him, the Lord was moved by his entreaty and listened to his plea; so he brought him back to Jerusalem and to his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the Lord is God.” Either it was too late for the people or Manasseh didn’t call the people together to repent .. and the people didn’t repent… but Manasseh did. One man rotten to the core, in charge of the nation … and his eyes were opened. ALL I can say is a BIG AMEN and I will pray harder for those on my prayer list that don’t know Jesus Christ because God cares… and HE is listening.
Sharing HIS love and praising HIM that HE loves us SO much that HE desires to LISTEN to us,
