Reading this Scripture was powerful….it was as if each word leaped off the page into my heart. What a great treasure of hidden gems in these chapters. If you write in your Bible (like I do)…. I bet your margins are FULL with notes and stars of things you desire to remember for the future.
Chapter 28: JUST in the first 3 verses the word PRIDE comes up 3 times. Did that jump off the page at you? When you look around your home, your job, your possessions, your achievements, your things, ……what do you think of? Do you pat yourself on the back and say: “I done good!!” OR do you say: “Oh thank you Lord for ALL your gifts in my life, for the talents and abilities you have blessed me with for your glory, for the wonderful things in my home, for EVERYthing in my life?” Do we take pride in the creations in our lives or do we give glory to God…the creator and giver of ALL?
Verse 4 — “The fading of it’s glorious beauty (Israel)…” Then in verse 5 — “[But] in that [future [a]Messianic] day the Lord of hosts shall become a crown of glory and a diadem of beauty to the [converted] REMNANT of His people,” Ummmm, ummmm… that is soooo awesome… because WE are the REMNANT!!!
“16 So this is what the Sovereign LORD says:
“See, I lay a stone in Zion,
a tested stone,
a precious CORNERSTONE for a sure foundation;
THE ONE WHO TRUSTS WILL NEVER BE DISMAYED. 17 I will make justice the measuring line
and righteousness the plumb line;
hail will sweep away your refuge, the lie,
and water will overflow your hiding place.”
Do you know that a Cornerstone is the FOUNDATION to the building? Without the cornerstone the structure will eventually fall. Who is this Precious Cornerstone?? You got it….. it is JESUS!!! If you want to see more of what the NT has to say about our Precious Cornerstone take a look at 1 Peter 2:4-12, Romans 9:30-33, or Matthew 21. SO AWWWWESOME right??
Verse 19 — focuses on the fact that captivity is coming, exile is coming for both Israel and Judah (it has already begun in the capital of Israel–Samaria.) Isaiah is telling them hard times are coming and it says: “The understanding of this message will bring sheer terror.” This makes me quake in my boots because of sooooo many similarities between our nation, our world, and Israel and Judah during the time of the prophets!! Jesus will come again and we as HIS children need to be prepared by reading HIS Word, KNOWIng HIM, repenting of anything HE calls us to repent of.
When we have a true understanding of God and His plan for people who live in disobedience it does bring a sense of sheer terror! If not in this world, after death. If we don’t have a fear of that for the unbelievers then we don’t understand the depths of Hell.
Chapter 29: Ariel, is not a mermaid. It refers to Zion, or Jerusalem. And anytime you read the word WOE…it means WOE! ….BEWARE…HOW HORRIBLE….BE WARNED…STOP AND THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE DOING!!
Verse 6 tells us of the PROMISE to come — “You shall be visited and delivered by the Lord of hosts with thunder and earthquake and great noise, with whirlwind and tempest and the flame of a devouring fire.” In other Words HIS people will live with the consequences of their choices….BUT HE is coming back for HIS REMNANT…the ONES who have REPENTED and TURNED back to HIM… the people King Hezekiah is preparing and teaching!!
The Lord says:
“These people come near to me with their mouth
and honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
Their worship of me
is made up only of rules taught by men. 29:13
Did you happen to catch that last verse? “…THEIR WORSHIP OF ME IS MADE UP ONLY OF RULES TAUGHT BY MEN…… WHOAAAA BABY!!! Are you listening to the “rules and teachings taught by men (or women) OR are you reading and learning the WORD of GOD? The Word of God is our ONLY TRUTH!! Where are you getting your truth???? From God or from men who make rules and preach from their opinions. I’ve always heard…. “opinions are like armpits….everyone has them…and they all stink” …. God brought me to a point where I no longer wanted someone’s opinion….but I WANTED to KNOW HIS WORD and ONLY HIS Word. Know what I mean?? In other parts of the bible we are warned about following false prophets….the ONLY way to know if a prophet is TRUE or FALSE is to KNOW the Word of God.
Chapter 30 — We have more “Woe”s!! Lots of warnings. Judah is still trying to align themselves with world powers of the time… in this situation with Egypt rather than with the LORD!!! LOOK at our current times, LOOK at who is aligning themselves with whom in regards to “world powers”!! In the aligning of world powers is anyone talking about the ONE TRUE GOD and doing what is right by HIM, or is everyone pushing HIM to the background. AND… when leaders push God to the background…the people tend to follow. Are we headed down the same road Israel and Judah went down. THINK about it…. if you are American… we have been VERY blessed by God. WE have been a major world power for YEARS because of our belief in God and trying to live by HIS ways. America has also always been on the side of Israel. As Christians we have responsibilities to PRAY for our leaders (in ALL areas not just political) and our nation. PRAY for a REVIVAL of BIBLICAL proportions…know what I mean????
Compare the following verses with what is happening in our nation and in the world today…..right now in 2013……
These are rebellious people, deceitful children,
children unwilling to listen to the LORD’s instruction.30:9
This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says:
“In repentance and rest is your salvation,
in quietness and trust is your strength,
but you would have none of it. 30:15
Yet the LORD longs to be gracious to you;
he rises to show you compassion.
For the LORD is a God of justice.
Blessed are all who wait for him! 30:18
And read or re-read verses 19-22 “19 O people who dwell in Zion at Jerusalem, you will weep no more. He will surely be gracious to you at the sound of your cry; when He hears it, He will answer you. 20 And though the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, yet your Teacher will not hide Himself any more, but your eyes will constantly behold your Teacher. 21 And your ears will hear a word behind you, saying, This is the way; walk in it, when you turn to the right hand and when you turn to the left. 22 Then you will defile your carved images overlaid with silver and your molten images plated with gold; you will cast them away as a filthy bloodstained cloth, and you will say to them, Be gone!”
In the words of the song by Crystal Lewis “People get ready Jesus is coming, soon we’ll be going home…” Isaiah was speaking to God’s Chosen people…..but it is also a WORD for US today!!! I LOVE the words in verse 19 — SURELY…HE will be gracious to you at the sound of you cry when HE hears it, HE will answer YOU!!…” HALLELUJAH!!
Our hearts do not go unnoticed by God. Are our hearts rebellious, stiff necked, or are we lukewarm fence riders (with one leg on each side of the fence and a bottom that has become sore from remaining on the fence?) Again, our hearts do NOT go unnoticed by God. HE loves us deeply and WANTS us to KNOW and HAVE HIS very best in this life and in the next. However, we MUST BELIEVE HIM, LOVE HIM, and WANT to serve HIM with all we ARE to truly RECEIVE from HIM. God disciplines those HE loves and those times of discipline are not usually pleasant, but if we can remember that HE is allowing it or causing it so that we can be purified and grow closer to HIM….. HE will change us for the BEST.
I pray your hearts are touched deeply by today’s Word. If you have any questions or “light bulb” moments I’d love to hear from you….either on the blog or via email. My email is firstname.lastname@example.org and be sure to use the SUBJECT field as BLOG so I do not accidentally toss it out.
Sharing HIS love,
