Please forgive my delay… I had my self in a routine..but my husband became very sick on Saturday…headed to Duke’s ER around 3 AM Sunday morning and spend most the day there. The Drs ruled out things…meanwhile my husband was not able to stop coughing or catch his breath. Finally left the ER with a “upper respiratory infection” (actually 2nd round because last weekend he went to the Dr and got an antibiotic for the same thing!!) diagnosis and 3 prescriptions. Get home and THINK after a dose of the cough med with codeine and the other meds…he’d be resting fine within an hour…..he wasn’t. The Dr wrote the RX wrong for the cough med…had to get back to the Dr in the ER (ever tried t do that??)…got the RX fixed and filled before the local pharmacy closed.
I am filled with praise (any many thanks for our prayer team at church) at this time because my husband has been able to sleep through the night and is not struggling for air. THANK GOD!!! The enemy is certainly on the attack and we are living proof of the Scripture that God “WILL NEVER LEAVE OR FORSAKE” us!!

OK, to the REAL important Word of God now. I may be late…. but still remaining faithful to our God…the MOST HIGH God…our ABBA FATHER!!

As we begin 2 Kings it is important to remember that the Nation of Israel is FULLY divided now. Jeremiah, or a group of prophets is thought to possibly be the author(s) of this book. We have the North — Israel and the South — Judah. We will now witness the FALL of both nations. Israel will be first (just stop and think about WHY Israel is first…. look at the list of Kings I gave you a few posts ago….Israel had all BAD KINGS (Kings who worshiped idols, built idols, lead the people away from worshiping the ONE TRUE GOD, rebellion, selfishness, etc.) Did this have to happen???? NO! NO! and NO again! We will read where God will send prophet after prophet with a message of repentance! “Turn BACK towards the Lord”. All in all there will only be a few that will be willing to swim against the current of the “world’s ways.” Doesn’t this sound familiar to our world today??? I don’t know if any of you have read a book by Messianic Rabbi Jonathan Cahn called the “Harbinger” but if not … he reveals how God is warning us TODAY to do the SAME thing God warned Israel and Judah about thousands of years ago… “TURN BACK TO THE LORD.” Isn’t it amazing that the book of Kings, possibly written by Jeremiah carries a message SO pertinent for today…. a message that demonstrates the fate that happens to those who REFUSE God. It is also important to note that the decisions of the kings/the leaders of the nations LEAD the nation into destruction. In the US we are allowed to choose our leaders, which in an of itself is a huge blessing but also a great responsibility. LOOK how important the leader is and how the leaders’ decisions impact the ENTIRE nation. So I implore you to CHOOSE wisely and PRAY for EACH of them daily.

ELISHA– We were introduced to Elisha in 1 Kings 19:16, it was right after Elijah had gone up to the mountain and heard God whisper to him. Elijah felt he had failed. He did God’s work and the people did not change their ways. I am sure we have all felt like Elijah if we have been leaders or volunteers who did not see (or felt we did not see) an impact in the direction of others. Elijah was instructed to anoint 4 men, one of them was Elisha. Elisha burned his equipment as a sign that he would walk with Elijah and The Lord forever….NO TURNING BACK!. Elisha asked for a double portion of Elijah’s spirit (lower case “s’) which was customary to ask for. See, the successor of a man, the first born received a double portion of all the elder had. What does Elisha want double of? What is IN Elijah! Isn’t that beautiful!

There are only 2 men taken to Heaven without dying — Enoch from Genesis and now Elijah. Enoch was taken before the flood wiped everyone out back in Genesis. Now Elijah is taken in a whirlwind!

So Elijah is taken up to heaven.

Can you see the portrait of Christ in these two prophets…….Put Elijah and Elisha together as one mission.

Elijah — the prophet of judgement and law, Elisha — the prophet of grace, love and tenderness. We see the miracles of Deliverance, Healing, and Provision. The Miracles occurred not because of anything the Prophets did, the prophets are just a CONDUIT for God’s work. The miracles occurred BECAUSE of their BELIEF in God.

When Elijah would tell Elisha to remain behind…. Elisha was like “NO WAY DUDE…. I PROMISED TO STICK TO YOU LIKE GLUE AND I AM NOT STAYING BEHIND…. I AM WITH YOU ALL THE WAY!!” I LOVE that…. possibly a message for today that we are to stick to Jesus like glue in all we do!!!

OK… so did anyone else get chills reading 2:11-12 “As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind. Elisha saw this and cried out, “My father! My father! The chariots and horsemen of Israel!” And Elisha saw him no more. Then he took hold of his garment and tore it in two. Elisha then picked up Elijah’s cloak that had fallen from him and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan. 14 He took the cloak that had fallen from Elijah and struck the water with it. “Where now is the Lord, the God of Elijah?” he asked. When he struck the water, it divided to the right and to the left, and he crossed over. The company of the prophets from Jericho, who were watching, said, “The spirit of Elijah is resting on Elisha.” And they went to meet him and bowed to the ground before him. “Look,” they said, “we your servants have fifty able men. Let them go and look for your master. Perhaps the Spirit of the Lord has picked him up and set him down on some mountain or in some valley.”

CAN YOU IMAGINE seeing a chariot of fire and horses of fire appear before you to take someone you loved to heaven??? WHOA BABY!!! That gave me chills!! And then people saw Elisha take Elijah’s cloak and part the water!! REMEMBER…. I TOLD YOU WE’D HEAR MORE ABOUT ELIJAH’S CLOAK. The cloak was a symbol of his authority as a prophet!!! ALSO.. remember the chariots of fire….we will see them again…. I KNOW….you just have to keep reading to see where they will appear!! <<<smile>>>>

I LOVED the story with Elisha healing the water and throwing salt into it!! In the NT we are to be the “salt” of the earth!! No coincidence there!!!

The story of the Shunammite’s son was so awesome. The power of belief and prayer. She didn’t tell her husband that the boy was dead because she believed in the power of the Lord. Did you notice/remember that this woman was barren and Elisha told her she would be pregnant in a year….. this same son died….and Elisha brought him back to life!! As I read this story I was reminded of Elijah when he healed the widow’s dead son. Couldn’t you see in both instances Elisha (and Elijah in a previous story) lying on the boy possibly in a Cross position. The power of the CROSS!!!. When our face is that close to Christ, and all we see is Christ and anything near our lips is of Christ, anything is possible. AMEN!!!

And our last story of today…. Elisha really did take care of the widow of one of his men!! He instructed her to pour the oil until ALL the jars they collected were full. When she filled the last jar (and originally having only a “little” oil.) From all these jars of oil she was able to sell the jars with oil, pay her debts, and provide for her and her family!!! Did this not remind you of Elijah telling the widow (same widow whose son he saved) to give him bread but she had nothing yet when Elijah was done….she had MORE than enough!! ) Then in 4:42-44 — Elisha feeds 100 people off out little bread!!! OH and what about JESUS… with the loaves and fishes??? YEAH… I KNOW…. THE WORD IS ummmmm…. ummmm…. good!!!

Here is a poem about the widow’s oil we just read about…

“The closer I grow, the more I come to know

how much I need the blood of Jesus.

The blood of Jesus, it is like the widow’s oil:

when it’s all you have, it’s all you ever need.” –Andrew Peterson

Sharing HIS love, HIS peace, HIS everything!!
