1 Kings 3 and 4. OK…. did you notice what the FIRST thing we are told about Solomon in his this chapter was??? He married an EGYPTIAN WOMAN!! OYE VEY!!! The WORD was orally passed down to the Israelites and they had to memorize ALL of the WORD. We KNOW that God’s perfect will was for only ONE man to marry ONE woman AND God told his people over and over and over…to marry within their people. He did NOT want them to go outside of their people because all others believed in false gods, and did things not pleasing to the ONE God. Yet, Solomon married an Egyptian woman. Not a good start…and one that will taint the end of his life because we ARE GREATLY INFLUENCED by the people we surround ourselves with and especially live with and marry. The more we are around the people we love, we not accept their ways of life but we also slowly begin to adapt to their influences. In Solomon’s case….will this impact his future relationship with God or will Solomon’s love of God and wisdom influence them? Stay tuned…..

The very next thing we are told about Solomon is WHERE he goes to make sacrifices. This is very important because they went to the “HIGH PLACES” which shows us they were not following the LAW. Sacrifices were ONLY to be made in places appointed by GOD and supervised by the PRIESTS so people did not begin doing “their own thing” by worshipping a place, an idol, or anything other than the ONE TRUE GOD. Gibeon is where they should have been all going; that is where the tabernacle was with the Bronze alter and the Tent of Meeting. The ARK however was in Jerusalem.

NEXT we see that God came to Solomon at night in a dream. NOTICE that God did not come to Solomon during the day when and where the sacrifices were being made.

What would you ask God for right now…today….if He said you can ask me for ANYTHING …ANYTHING you desire??? Would you ask for a discerning heart/wisdom?
Imagine having the discerning heart/wisdom that came ONLY from God. KNOWING WHAT to DO at ALL times (good ones, bad ones, challenging ones, etc.) Wisdom is not ONLY KNOWING what to do but DOING it. God will give us wisdom if first, we ask AND and second if we TRULY believe that HE will give it to us.

This is in the NT as well. Check out what James 1:5-7 says: “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.”

The very next thing we read about today is that God told Solomon HE would grant him wisdom but because he did not ask for worldly possessions….HE, GOD was going to give him EVERYTHING….wealth, riches, and honor. I am reminded of the Scripture Ephesians 3:20-21 from the AMP version that says: “20 Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask or think [infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams]—” HE is able and does give us FAR OVER and ABOVE ALL we DARE ASK OR THINK. THAT is exactly what happened to Solomon. GOOD NEWS—eh??

Directly following the gift of wisdom, we are told that Solomon returned to Jerusalem (where the ARK was and where the priests were) and stood before the ARK and sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings. AHHHH… that was wisdom in action.

Did you not absolutely LOVE the way Solomon resolved the conflict between the prostitutes? Again…wisdom in action. AND in a day when there was NO postal service, UPS, FED EX, cell phones, texting, internet…..the WORD spread of how amazingly wise Solomon was.

Psalm 72— Solomon wrote this Psalm and was a prayer for Solomon but it was also a a prayer for the TRUE King of Kings, a foreshadow of Jesus Christ. Beginning with verse 8—Jesus is ALL over that page. Verse 17 is quoted in Genesis and in Luke as a prophecy of the King that will reign over ALL nations forever. HALLELUJAH!!!

This Psalm reminds me of the NEED and responsibility we ALL have to PRAY for our leaders in ALL places, at ALL levels in our churches, schools, businesses, financial leaders, cities, states, federal government, and world leaders. GOD hears our prayers and I think we can all say a BIG AMEN that every leader you can think of either needs your prayers to continue to have wisdom to carry out God’s purpose or they need it so God will use them for the good of HIS people regardless of the direction their personal heart is turned. Rather than wasting our energy on complaining to our neighbors about how things are….we can make a HUGE impact by PRAYING for it all.

Sharing HIS love,
