Psalms 111-118

Psalm 111-118

These Psalms are all by an anonymous author and they are grouped together as the Hallel, Hallelujah, Praise God psalms. Hallel means praise. Hallelujah, means Praise God. Psalms 115-118 were traditionally sung on Passover….that means they would have been sung the night of the last supper with Jesus Himself praising the Lord with these words.

Today has been a painful day…my husband was “downsized” from his career of 21 years. In 30 days he will no longer have a job. Our bodies are trembling but our faith and trust are in HIM to guide us and direct us for this next chapter of our lives. All prayers will be greatly appreciated.

I am not going to go through each Psalm today because they are straight forward. They are beautiful and timely for me. The lines that grabbed me the most today were:

111:5 — He provides food for those who fear HIM, HE remembers HIS covenant forever.
111:9–HE provided redemption for HIS people (Redemption means recovery of someone or something upon PAYMENT of a ransom…WE have been REDEEMED…bought with a price!!…paid in full)
111:19 –The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise. (also repeated in Proverbs 9:10)

112:7–HE will have no fear of bad news…

113:7…and lifts the needy from the ash heap and seats them with princes…

115:12–The LORD remembers us and will bless us…

116:7–Be at rest once more, O my soul. for the LORD has been good to you…

This Psalm asked HOW can I repay the LORD….and the point is we can NOT… we can only do HIS will and remain obedient and faithful to HIM…that is HIS desire….our HEARTS sold out to HIM.

Psalm 117— This is officially the shortest chapter in ALL the bible. It is also the middle chapter of the bible. Paul quotes this in Romans but changes the name from nation to GENTILES….. that’s US 🙂

118:5–In my anguish I cried to The Lord and HE answered by setting me free.
118:17– I will not die but live, and will proclaim what the LORD has done.
118:24– This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. (On a real personal note…..THIS is the Scripture we used on our wedding invitations in Feb 1989!!)

Sharing HIS love,
