Deuteronomy 30-31

Chapter 30 Can you imagine being in the crowd of 2-3 million people listening to Moses speak?  This is where my thoughts run wild, in the smallest of things!!  I mean…. Moses had NO speaker system… no microphone…. YET EVERY one could hear him.  Doesn’t make you giggle (I believe the Lord has a sense of humor) and just think back to when God first told Moses…..YOU will speak for me and he said: “but Lord… I can’t do that”)?  🙂

This chapter has some very beautiful Scripture:

Vs 1-2 –“WHEN all these blessings and curses I have set before you come upon you and you take them to heart wherever the Lord your God disperses you among the nations, and when you and your children return to the LORD your God and obey HIM with all your heart and with all your soul according to everything I command you today THEN the Lord your God will RESTORE your fortunes and have compassion on you…”

In the above verses and in the ones that follow the Lord was preparing a way for HIS people to return to HIM — a foreshadow of Jesus Christ!!

Vs 5-6 – “…He will make you more prosperous and numerous than your fathers.  The Lord your God will circumcise your hearts and the hearts of your descendants.”

Romans 10:8–   But what does it say?  “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,”that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. As the Scripture says, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame.”For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

 I LOVE verses 7-10:

The Lord your God will put all these curses on your enemies who hate and persecute you. You will again obey the Lord and follow all his commands I am giving you today. Then the Lord your God will make you most prosperous in all the work of your hands and in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your land. The Lord will again delight in you and make you prosperous, just as he delighted in your ancestors, 10 if you obey the Lord your God and keep his commands and decrees that are written in this Book of the Law and turn to the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

Vs 11 tells us … “what HE is commanding us to do is NOT too difficult for you or beyond your reach.

Whatever you are facing in your life …. God wants you to know it is not to difficult for you.  HE IS ALL YOU NEED!

I challenge you to claim these verses personally, for today, for your life.  These are some awesome promises.  God says HIS Word will never return VOID.  Isaiah 55:11 states: “my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”

Verses 19-20 – is where God tells HIS people… “you have a choice to make” (my words… not scripture.)  CHOOSE this day whom you will serve … CHOOSE LIFE or CHOOSE DEATH…. But you must make a choice.  He tells us HIS DESIRE FOR US IS TO CHOOSE LIFE!!!  But, HE is such a gentleman that HE gives us a CHOICE.  HE does not force HIMself on us. HE WANTS us to choose HIM because we want HIM.  WE make this choice today by CHOOSING to confess Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior with our mouth and BELIEVE with our heart and HE REDEEMS us when we do this

Chapter 31Moses prepared the Israelites for his death, told them he would not enter the Promised Land, and tells them that Joshua will be their leader.  Before last year, my heart broke when I read Moses could not enter the Promised Land.  However, it was not because God did not love him, or care for him.  Moses is one of the figures seen with Jesus at the Transfiguration (Matthew 17) so we KNOW Moses is in the eternal Promised Land.  And one of the most touching verses in Deuteronomy is that GOD BURIED HIM.  I don’t know about you but that brings such a peace over me.

Moses tells Joshua several times:  “be strong and courageous.”  He also tells the Israelites once they get into the Promised Land that they will stray from the one true God and what the consequences will be (NO wonder he tells Joshua to be strong and courageous .. eh??)

The Israelites had been following MOSES for 40 years … still with a pillar of cloud by day and fire by night.  However, Moses could not lead them into the Promised Land.  Joshua became their leader because of his FAITH.  NOW the people were going to have to trust the LORD in their new leader, and concerning the Promised Land.  It was SOOOO important that they remembered the miracles that had been performed by their GOD.  It was also IMPORTANT that they TEACH THEIR CHILDREN all about God.

Vs 3 – The Lord your God HIMself will cross over ahead of you

Vs 6, 7, 23 – Be strong and courageous

Verse 16 – God is VERY plain in telling HIS people what will happen in the future.  Notice HE tells them this after HE tells them to make a CHOICE FOR LIFE!!  It is very sad to read this and to know in future readings it does come to pass….. ALL because of their CHOICES … NOT because of God’s desires!!  I can ONLY imagine how tired Moses was at 140 years of age after wandering in the wilderness for 40 years witnessing grumbling, murmuring, rebelling, and all the Israelites did in opposition to God.  It is a good thing that Moses no longer had to witness this.  On a personal level I think about my parents.  They came from Italy. Leaving a nation that had been ravaged by WWI and they knew another war was on the horizon.  I am first generation.  They came to this country to be American and live the American Dream… so their children would be in a better, safer, economically stable place to grow and raise their children.  I am eternally grateful that my parents can no longer see what is happening in our nation and that they are home with the Lord.

“You are going to rest with your fathers, and these people will soon prostitute themselves to the foreign gods of the land they are entering. They will forsake me and break the covenant I made with them.  On that day I will become angry with them and forsake them; I will hide my face from them, and they will be destroyed. Many disasters and difficulties will come upon them, and on that day they will ask, ‘Have not these disasters come upon us because our God is not with us? And I will certainly hide my face on that day because of all their wickedness in turning to other gods.

Although this is a hard ending for today …. Remember this is only part of the story.  We live our lives with the RESURRECTED JESUS CHRIST (if we CHOOSE HIM).  All things are possible through Jesus Christ.  We have the HOLY SPIRIT who lives inside of us… guiding us… showing us the way.  Regardless of what happens in our nation, in our life, in our home, in our jobs,…..…. We KNOW the God who is in CONTROL and LOVES us more than we will EVER be able to comprehend on this side of Heaven.  He tells us it will not be easy, but we live with HOPE….HIS HOPE… HIS ETERNAL PROMISES!!

Be uplifted and listen to this song by Matt Redman “10,000 Reasons, Bless the Lord”

As my friend Dawn E continually reminds me…. BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS!!

Sharing HIS love

PS… please forgive my tardiness… a wonderful weekend leaves me sluggish… but I’m still PRAISING GOD!! 🙂
