KEEP IN MIND THAT THE BOOK OF MATTHEW WAS A BOOK WRITTEN TO THE JEWISH NATION!! He is NOT addressing the Christian. This book is POST rapture for the Jews lift on earth.
Several things happened on this day. First, the Disciples SEE the withered fig tree (Mt. 21:20), then Pharisees and Sadducees plan a “sneak” attack on Jesus by trying to be cleaver with their questioning (Mt. 21:23.). They were trying to get Jesus to say something “wrong” so they would have a reason to arrest him. JESUS KNEW what they were doing!! HE turned it back on them in a very humble way. The Pharisees and Sadducees could NOT trap HIM!!! It was not time YET!
Although the reading today is only Chapter 24, you may get so carried away with your interest that you may want to head straight into Chapter 25!! IT IS THAT GOOD!!
Jesus made two visits to the Mount of Olives, both in the last week of HIS life. The first visit was to deliver what has come to be known as the Olivet Discourse (Matt 24:1-25; 46.) Mark 13:1-37 and Luke 21:5-36 give their account of this event as well. Did you know that the prophet Zachariah had predicted that the Messiah would stand IN THIS VERY PLACE when HE came to establish his kingdom (Zechariah 14:4?)
In verse 3 he disciples are curious and want to know “when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the close of the age?” Jesus’ response refers to the future tribulation period and the second coming of Christ at the end of tribulation.
The Discourse includes the following:
- Parable about those who wait for the Master’s coming – the wise and faithful servant (verses 45-51).
- Parable of the five wise virgins (Chapter 25:1-13)
- Parable of the talents while waiting on for the Master’s return (25:14-20)
Jesus 2nd visit to the Mount of Olives will be discussed on the Good Friday entry since it followed HIS last Passover meal with His disciples. (BTW – The Garden of Gethsemane is located on a slope of the Mount of Olives.)
I continue to pray that each of you are being richly blessed during this HOLY WEEK as you prepare your hearts for the celebration of the RESURRECTION.
Sharing HIS love,
