Chapter 24 — Oil and Bread were put out as 12 loaves, for the 12 tribes of Israel as a reminder of their complete dependence on God’s provision. Here is what it looked like (I know I’ve shared it with you before but in case you are just joining or forgot I thought I’d share it again 🙂
God is telling Moses what to tell Aaron in how to treat the Holy Place, the lamps, the oil, the bread … did you notice the frankincense (Jesus…. and one of the gifts brought to him.) 🙂
Then out of NOOOOOO WHERE…. We are told about a Blasphemer Stoned!! WAMMO…. Why is this all of a sudden carved out? We’re reading along about Atonement and Sacrifices and NOW there is a stoning of a Blasphemer. What does Blasphemy mean? –”A speaking ill, impious speech, slander,” to speak evil of.” According to Merriam-Webster it means — a : the act of insulting or showing contempt or lack of reverence for God b : the act of claiming the attributes of deity. Black’s Law Dictionary states: “In American Law; any oral (slander) or written (libel) reproach maliciously cast upon God, His name, attributes, or religion.” The easiest and most understandable definition for me is that it is defiant irreverence. Remember in Job how satan was convinced that if he was allowed to take everything away from Job then Job would curse and renounce God (Job 2:5) AMP? If Job would have done that then it would have been blasphemy. BUT GO JOB… HE didn’t 🙂
So, as the Israelites are learning how to worship God and be holy — the son of an Israelite woman and Egyptian man, insults, shows lack of reverence for God, or claims he is deity, (or whatever he specifically did that was irreverent to God) and he cursed. Did you notice that the son came from an Israelite and Egyptian (which is one of the reasons God moved them OUT of Egypt so they would not be influenced by the rules, laws, attitudes, gods, of the Egyptians)?
I found it interesting that the Israelites put the “son” in custody until the Lord told Moses what was to happen to him. That is what God wants us to do too…. When we are not sure what to do we are to bring it all to Him in prayer and then WAIT on HIM. Moses and the Israelites did this!!
What is the Only Unpardonable sin?? The only unpardonable sin today is continued unbelief of Jesus Christ who was THE FINAL SACRIFICE… the FINAL SUBSTITUTE for our SIN.. OUR HIGH PRIEST. It was unpardonable in the OT for sins to go unconfessed because without confession … there could be no sacrifice, no substitute for their sin, and no atonement. Today, it is unpardonable when people choose not to believe in Jesus Christ and confess their sin, which it is why it is so important for people to know HIM before it is too late (either they die before asking Him to be their Lord or if they have not asked Him when He comes again). Old Testament, New Testament, does not matter, SALVATION was the Same and DAMNATION was the same. GOD Never CHANGES! Every sin would be covered in the Old Testament on the Day of Atonement.
But again… why is BLASPHEMY “thrown” in at this point? What is the one sin that God needed purged….Blaspheming His Holy Name. The way we use His Name is the way we TRULY feel about Him in our Hearts (Matthew 12:34 (AMP)–“For out of the fullness (the overflow, the superabundance) of the heart the mouth speaks”.)
Keep in your mind…make a note in your Bible that this very accusation …. FALSE accusation is what is going to put Jesus ON THE CROSS (according to the Jews)….a different false accusation will be from the Gentiles.
Chapter 25 –The Sabbath Year: How AWESOME is our God?? He gave HIS people, and the LAND a year of REST. The word “rest” occurs 275 times in 265 verses in the KJV … that’s a whole lot of REST in HIM!! If you are interested in learning how we are to REST IN HIM …. Use your concordance or the BLB. One of my favorite verses in reference to rest is Matt 11:28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Clearly it is repeated over and over that we are to take a Rest in Him. DO notice that the Lord ways “WHEN you get to the Promised Land…” (not if)??? There is a song called “He will carry you” that mentions HIS REST.. (I KNOW.. you knew I had to have a song in here somewhere right?) Be sure to click on the song with the same name. This song brings me to the REST in HIM. Praise HIM!!
Jubilee…CAN you imagine a world where every 50 years ALL debts would be forgiven … financial, freedom, errors, … things would be returned and restored???? Although it may not happened physically in this world; we KNOW when we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior ALL is forgiven; we are redeemed immediately; we are restored immediately. HALLELUJAH!!
What does Jubile mean? According to the BLB it means alarm, signal, sound of tempest, shout, shout or blast of war or alarm or joy. According to qotquestion.com “the word “jubilee” – literally, “ram’s horn” in Hebrew is defined in Leviticus 25:9 as the sabbatical year after seven cycles of seven years (49 years). The fiftieth year was to be a time of celebration and rejoicing for the Israelites. The ram’s horn was blown on the tenth day of the seventh month to start the fiftieth year of universal REDEMPTION.”
“The land must not be sold permanently, because the land is mine and you are but aliens and my tenants. Throughout the country that you hold as a possession, you must provide for the REDEMPTION of the land” (Leviticus 25:23,24)
Anytime you hear the word REDEMPTION in Scripture it should catch your heart. ALWAYS remember WHO’s WE ARE … and not worry about who we are!! NOTHING we are or have is our own. When we are REDEEMED we are going BACK to the Lord. We WERE separated when sin entered the World, but there was always a plan of REDEMPTION, JESUS. We may have been separated from God, but we were always HIS. Just like the land, it always gets returned to the original owner.
Jubilee is a year of Restoration for ALL… Rich, Poor, Enslaved, in Bondage…All. If NONE of that made sense just take this away…we are all in slavery and we are all given an opportunity to come to Freedom.
I’d love to hear from you… anything stand off the page of your Bible for your today??
Sharing HIS love,
