Genesis 25-26

Chapter 25 – If you turn on the news … pick a station… it does NOT matter… you see the conflict in the Middle East.  WHO understands it all???  It is really complicated and continues to grow worse (ummmmm ….. could this have anything to do with the end times???)  Here is what to look for when watching the Middle East activities and the nations surrounding them …. ANY nation fighting today …. Was named something else in the Bible (which is why I think the Bible maps are so critical so you can SEE what they used to be and what/who they are today).

ALL of the fighting had its beginning Scripturally!!!  Take a look at a slight recap of Ishmael (REMEMBER HE IS WHERE THE ARAB NATIONS COME FROM).   These wars, quarrels, fights, death threats, nuclear war threats, hate, etc.,  are ALL God’s prophesy being fulfilled.  So… KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN FOR FULFILLED PROPHECY (through the Bible and as it unfolds today).

Abraham remarries after Sarah’s death and has more children.  Abraham dies and is buried with Sarah.  Then we are told about Ishmael’s family.  We can SEE God’s promise to Hagar and to Ishmael (meaning = “God will hear”) being kept.  A little about Ishmael from our past reads:

And as for Ishmael, I have heard you: I will surely bless him; I will make him fruitful and will greatly increase his numbers. He will be the father of twelve rulers, and I will make him into a great nation. (Genesis 17:20)

He will be a wild donkey of a man;
his hand will be against everyone
and everyone’s hand against him,
and he will live in hostility
toward  all his brothers.” (Genesis 16:12)

Ishmael dies.  Then did you notice in verse 18 that they lived near the border of Egypt … “AND THEY LIVED IN HOSTILITY TOWARD ALL THEIR BROTHERS.”?

Now we are here with Isaac (means “he laughed”) and Rebekah (means “ensnare”, and Isaac was ensnared by her beauty wasn’t he?).  Isaac prayed on behalf of his wife for children.  In my “Life Application Bible” it states that “Isaac PLEADED with God for children.”  The Lord answered.  This tells us that God WANTS us to come to him in prayer with our concerns and needs.  He LOVEs hearing from us.  Rebekah begins to have severe pain because of her pregnancy.  She goes to the Lord to ask what the deal is.  Look what he tells her in Genesis 25:23

The Lord said to her,

“Two nations are in your womb,
and two peoples from within you will be separated;
one people will be stronger than the other,
and the older will serve the younger.”

Coming back to my original comment about the news ….. can you see where the conflict SPECIFIC to the Middle East STARTED?? YEP… right here in Rebekah’s womb!!!

Esau was technically the first born, although they were twins (do you ever see twins debate who came first??).  Jacob seemed to have “slid in” to the world by HOLDING ON TO ESAU’s ANKLE!!  Jacob means “heel holder”, “supplanter”,”layer of snares.”

I have added a second entry today about the “ites” family tree.  If you enjoy studying this history, look at that sheet, print it out, and circle the Israelites and the Edomites. (If it’s not your thing it, NO problem!!)  See the nations from the people.  The Lord said 2 nations from within would be separated.  Esau (means “hairy”, “rough”), he was also red, the word red will be a part of much of Esau, the Red stew for example (he will live in a red mountain).  Esau’s family will be known as the Edomites (because he loved to eat the stew, verse 30).  I point this out because from here to Obadiah to Malachi you will read about the Edomites and all the fighting that results from this hate Esau has for Jacob.

One interesting thing to me was that Esau sold his birthright for a bowl of stew.  He was so hungry (or thought he was) that he had no regard for his own birthright (no thought about future consequences).  Does this remind you of anything or anyone … like maybe Adam and Eve….. taking “just ONE bite” from the forbidden tree with NO thought to consequences!!??  I personally am sitting here thinking…. OH MY…. I resemble these situations when my brain seems to simply forget about CONSEQUENCES… argh!!

What is a BIRTHRIGHT???  THIS is a BIG DEAL.  In Biblical times the firstborn (and maybe in some cultures today) got a double portion, the leader position, and a blessing from the father.  Esau had little spiritual nature and SOLD his BIRTHRIGHT for a bowl of  stew!

Did you notice the “small things” that shaped the two sons’ characters?   Look at how Isaac favored one son while Rebekah favored another.  Do you think this happens today??  Did you also notice anyways Rebekah “ensnared” the blessing for Jacob?

Chapter 26 – Did you see that Isaac had a relationship with God (verse 2)?  God tells Isaac NOT to go to Egypt, Isaac obeys. And then… RUT ROW…. Isaac does the same thing Abraham did to a man named Abimelech (not the same man, but definitely the same family line) and tells him “she is my sister”.  OH MAN??  Did Abraham not tell him what had happened to him?  Did this sin get passed down to Isaac?  BELIEVE me.. I am NOT judging… I’ve done my share and thank GOD for his love, for Jesus, and for forgiveness!!  But… catch this…. EVEN though Isaac made the same untrusting mistake Abraham did, God KEPT His promise to Bless Him and reaffirmed the same Promise he made to Abraham. (verse 26:23 if you missed it)

Did you notice the names of the wells that the Philistines closed up and Isaac redug?  Did any of those “speak to you”?

The Chapter ended with Esau getting married to two Hittite women.  YEP… OUTSIDE of HIS FAMILY!!    And, his wives make Isaac and Rebekah MISERABLE.  Nope, they are NOT on the Hebrew genealogy graphs.  Esau just continues to “do it myyyyyy way” as the old song from Frank Sinatra says.  He makes one bad decision after another.  Abraham was pretty clear about marrying within the tribe to protect them from adopting false pagan worship (this will be the fall of many in the bible).

I deeply apologize for this being such a late entry on Saturday.  Please forgive me if I put a impacted your reading and discovery.  No details about why.. cuz this process is not about me… but about the WORD and what God is saying in each of our hearts.

May God richly bless your reading today!!

I’d love to hear how God is speaking to you.

Sharing HIS love,
