Chapter 24 – I can tell Job is growing more weary and confused and is almost agreeing with his friends. Verse 1 states: “Why does the Almighty not set times for judgment?” IMHO this has a foreshadow of Jesus written all over it. Although it would not have applied to Job, we have the knowledge through the Word that the time for the final judgment will be at the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ.
Chapter 25 – “BilBAD” sticks to his premises, totally ignored Job’s examples of the prosperity of the wicked (among other things Job said), and keeps it surprisingly short this round!!
Chapter 26, 27, 28 — are all Job. He has the “distinction of giving the longest speech in the book (six chapters) – weaving together pictures of God’s mystery and power in a beautiful poem of trust.” (From the Life Application Bible). Chapter 27: 3-6 – Job still maintains his integrity (NOT SINLESS, NOT PERFECT). Chapter 27:13-23 – Job agrees with his friends that the wicked will end in disaster.
Chapter 28:12 – Job states: “BUT WHERE can WISDOM be found? Again in verse 20 he states: “WHERE then does WISDOM come from? WHERE does understanding dwell?” In verse 23 he answers his own question. “God understands the way to it and he ALONE knows where it dwells. In verse 28 he says: “The FEAR OF THE LORD – that is WISDOM, and to shun evil UNDERSTANDING.” I don’t know about you but these scriptures are FULL of life application opportunities. 🙂
So what is WISDOM??? In last year’s blog Patricia did the following research:
“Wisdom: the ability to make good use of knowledge. (NIV)
Wisdom: knowledge, understanding, applying knowledge and insights to life situations. (Henrietta Mears) God-given ability, rather than human common sense.
Wisdom: using facts I know and truths I understand to make right decisions in my daily life. (Children’s Bible)
Back to the Dictionary: Fear of the Lord? It says ”profound reverence and awe toward God, or to think of God with awe and wonder because I understand His great power. The Hebrew word (Strongs Concordance) used originally in Scripture was yir’ah, which is a noun..meaning A RESPECT.
If you think you can get this Wisdom from anything WE CAN DO, think again, Romans 3:22 says “This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus”. “
As my Pastor Dave Bowmen, at New Horizon Church says: “INFORMATION + ACTION = TRANSFORMATION.” Isn’t that true? God’s Word (information, knowledge, and wisdom) + OUR action (with HIS help) = Transformation!! Romans 12:1-2 discusses that we not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of our minds with the Word. And THAT is the SAME place WISDOM comes from. I love Patricia’s last line from last year “… it is our FAITH that allows God to TAKE our knowledge and TRANSFORM it into wisdom…”
Psalms 111:10 states: The fear of the Lord is the beginning of WISDOM: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever. (KJV)
